Dusseldorf 2011

Following Lena’s victory in Oslo, the German broadcaster invited bids from cities interested in hosting the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.  Germany had previously hosted the contest in Munich, but Berlin was seen as the front-runner to win the right to stage the 2011 contest.  In the end, it was Dusseldorf which emerged as the successful bidder, with the contest being staged in the massive Esprit Stadium to the north of the city centre.
